Loss is a part of life. Grief is the process we go through when we suffer a loss. Losses include many things and not just death related, such as the loss of jobs, relationships, children growing up and leaving the home and even our self-identity. It is important to understand the fact that grief and loss are not only due to tragic situations like death but can also occur from losses that throw off your daily routine or prevent you from going to work.

Grief and loss have become very common during these difficult times we are living through. For many of us, there are very confusing and intense emotions that continue to arise as we live through these day-to-day losses that appear in various ways.

It is possible to get over the losses we feel. Through these tough times, it is very important to understand the grieving process and acknowledge the fact that healing is very possible. Below are a few techniques to improve your situation and heal as much as you can.

Seeking Support

Reaching out to loved ones and friends during times like these is very beneficial for both you and them, especially because of the lack of human interaction. These times can make losses seem much worse since we are also faced with feelings of loneliness and isolation, so talking about your feelings can make the burden of grief easier to acknowledge.

Whether it be through video chats or messages, there are many ways to stay in contact with others despite not being able to see them in person, and this is a great way to heal from your losses and understand that you are not alone. You will be surprised by the help that family and friends can provide during times of grief and loss and the similar feelings that they will express.

Connect with Spirituality

When a person is grieving a loss, it is very common to feel detached and disconnected from the body and one’s surroundings. A great way to heal from this and feel in touch with reality is through spirituality. Practices like deep breathing and meditation can allow you to connect with your mind and come to terms with the thoughts and emotions you have been experiencing.

This may also mean learning more about religion and faith and analyzing the ways you can incorporate it into your daily life. There are many ways to connect with your spirituality in difficult times, and this is a great way to sit with your emotions rather than brushing them off or pushing them away.

Maintain Hobbies

During periods where you are feeling intense and mixed emotions, you may feel very overwhelmed and lost. When you are not able to stick to a daily routine, you can feel like you have lost structure and may pick up habits that are not healthy for your body. It is important to stay in touch with your hobbies and interests because they can bring you joy and distract you from everything going on around you.

Maintain Physical Health

Staying fit and active during times of loss is very beneficial to your mental health and stability. Making healthy choices instead of reaching for comfort food and junk food can make you feel happier and help to clear your mind. This can allow you to destress and feel less fatigued.

Grief can cause a plethora of emotions, and we are often not prepared for these feelings to arise. By sticking to what we know, staying healthy, and finding support in others while acknowledging our deep emotions, we can begin to heal from within and accept what is. The process is not easy in any way, but there are many steps we can take to properly heal from the grief and loss we may be experiencing.
